En D'autres Termes: Le Français tel qu'on le parle

J'utilise ce livre dans ma classe de francais!I love this book! It's a great to accompany any AP or intermediate French course. We use it in my class. The title explains it: French like they speak it. The chapters are arranged according to theme. There are great idioms in here, which are wonderful for the AP test compositions. Or if you just want to learn French and can understand grammatical structure, this book is wonderful. There are also exercises in the chapters which ask the student to translate sentences or match the phrases with sentences. Crosswords and word finds also make it fun. In the back of the book, there is an "appendice" with good grammer points and expressions. Directions and explanations in French are also another plus.

Encyclopedia of Marks on American, English, and European Earthenware, Ironstone, Stoneware, 1780-1980: Makers, Marks, and Patterns in Blue and White, Historic Blue, Flow Blue, Mulberry, Romantic Transferware, Tea Leaf, and White Ironstone (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

Kowalsky Book Surpasses Godden's Standard ReferenceFor years, serious collectors of pottery and porcelain relied on the works of Geoffrey Godden to assist them in their search for manufacturer's marks. Other authors produced different books, but Godden always remained the standard. Those days are over as Arnold A. and Dorothy E. Kowalsky have now produced what will undoubtedly become the definitive ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MARKS. Emphasizing the products of American, English and European earthenware, ironstone and stoneware from 1780-1980, the Kowalsky's present - as their book jacket states - "Makers, Marks, and Patterns in Blue and White, Historic Blue, Flow Blue, Mulberry, Romantic Transferware, Tea Leaf and White Ironstone." Containing 688 pages and hundreds of manufacturer's marks, this masterpiece highlights - and cross references to Geoffrey Godden - American Potteries and Marks, English Potters and Patterns, and European Potters and Patterns. Also included are notes from selected authorities spotlighting transfer printing on blue and white ceramics, historical Staffordshire, Flow Blue, Mulberry Ironstone, White Ironstone and Copper Lustre Decorative Motifs on White Ironstone China. The authors have diligently provided a guide for readers to know how to use their book. Some books are written for information; some for pleasure. This wonderful addition to the world of antiques and collectibles provides both information and pleasure. You really can't get any better than this!!

Encyclopedia of White Magic
Published in Hardcover by Bdd Promotional Book Co (November, 1990)
Average review score:

One of the best Witchcraft books ever written! If you are lucky enough to find this book, don't pass it by! Although this is a book of Traditional Witchcraft (the Craft before Gardner created his own tradition), and not Wicca, this book can be of great use to either. This is a book of seasonal magick and celebration, not a how-to manual on Witchcraft. Ms. Slade takes you through the celebration of the eight major seasonal holidays, and two more celebrated in her Tradition. (Michaelmas and Midsummer, which she celebrates as a seperate holiday from the summer solstice) For each holiday, she explains the meaning and folklore behind each holiday, magic, animals and herbs associated with it and some of the most beautiful nature photography I've ever seen to set the mood. This is not a book for the newbie Witch. You must already have an understanding of the religion, history and ritual of Witchcraft... especially for the Wiccan student. While most of the lines between Wicca and pre-Gardnerian Witchcraft are blurry or nonexistant, there are a few differences pointed out in this book that can cause some confusion.Over all, I highly recommend this wonderful book... For traditionalists who wish to enrich their practices and for Wiccans to reach a better understanding of the roots of their religion.I found my copy at a close-out bookstore warehouse and I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not having bought an extra copy.

Enter the River: Healing Steps from White Privilege Toward Racial Reconciliation
Published in Paperback by Herald Pr (March, 1994)
Average review score:

a Biblical response to racismSo rarely do White American males speak out on racism, and this is especially lacking in the Christian Church, which remains frightfully split along racial lines (read "Divided By Faith" if you're unconvinced of this). Which is why this book is so necessary. Jody writes out of his experience especially to other White Christians in America, giving Biblical, historical, personal, and and social reasons to examine racism and work for reconciliation. The chapter on affirmative action alone makes the book extremely relevant, though a decade old, in light of the continued controversy and misinformation about this issue surrounding the recent Supreme Court rulings.

The Escape Orbit
Published in Paperback by Ace Books (March, 1983)

Try to find this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This may be my favorite Sci-Fi book of all time. It may have also been the first Sci-Fi book I ever read. James White has created a prisoner of war camp that is a whole planet. How do you escape from a planet where your captor restricts your technology to the bronze age level and most of the "prisoners" have long since stopped regarding themselves as soldiers. James White makes the attempt seem plausible and exciting. It reminds me of a Sci-Fi "The Great Escape". And, he also pulls a twist at the end that wraps the book up nicely and makes you rethink the rest of the book. I know it's not in stock, but try to find it! While it's different than White's Sector General stories, he still instills the attention to detail that makes his SG stories authentic.

The Essential West Highland White Terrier
Published in Paperback by Howell Book House (August, 1999)
Average review score:

An Essential book for Westie ownersAs a breeder and lover of West Highland White Terriers, I picked
this little book to give to each of the families where I place my Westies.
There are many books out there on Westies and they are all good
but I wanted the new owners to have something for a quick-read,
that would equip them with essential facts about this breed of dog for a Westie is like no other dog.
They are in a class all to themselves.
This book does just that---gives the reader lots of information about the Personality, Homecoming, Health, Nutritious feeding program, Grooming, Breed Standard, History of the Westie, Behavior and Training.

glean something that helps me be a better person with my Westies.
Someone once said that "without communication, there can be no understanding." After reading this book, your understanding of the West Highland White Terrier will increase and it will proportionately affect your communication with your pet, the little dog that is possessed with no small amount of self-esteem!!
And you will both understand each other better.
